A filantropia científica da Fundação Rockefeller: uma análise bibliométrica da produção científica indexada na Scopus (1913–1980)

Abstract

The objective was to measure the impact of scientific philanthropy promoted by the Rockefeller Foundation on knowledge production. A systematic bibliometric analysis of documents funded by the RF between 1913 and 1980 was conducted. The results show an increase in publications from the 1950s onward, with emphasis on areas such as tropical diseases, parasitology, immunology, and endocrinology. Furthermore, the analysis of collaboration networks highlights the centrality of the United States and significant partnerships with countries in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is concluded that the RF's work played a relevant role in consolidating scientific communities and strategically guiding emerging fields, contributing to the development of a scientific infrastructure with international reach.

Doutora em Política Científica e Tecnológica pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), mestre em Ciência, Tecnologia e Sociedade pela Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar) e graduada em Biblioteconomia pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP). Atualmente, é Professora Doutora na Universidade de São Paulo (USP), vinculada ao Departamento de Educação, Informação e Comunicação da Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP/USP), onde atua como coordenadora do curso de graduação em Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação e supervisora de estágio.
