Abstract

This review centers on the intrinsic relationship that the collection "Tecnologia, ciência e ambiente" establishes between sociopolitical disputes and ontological conflicts. The work prompts an analytical shift by examining cases such as AmazonFACE, the remediation in Rio Doce, and food activism, demonstrating that environmental conflicts are, in their ultimate condition, disputes over the definition of reality. Thus, the climate crisis is understood as an antagonistic process of worlding, where world projects, based on incommensurable epistemologies and ontologies, contend for hegemony. The review concludes that the work highlights the constitutive nexus between the climate crisis and the struggles for epistemic and ontological justice, indicating that overcoming it requires the formulation of policies with a pluriversal foundation.

Author Biographies

Luan Homem Belomo, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul

Master in Social Sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). Specialist in Strategy and Contemporary International Relations from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and in Higher Education Teaching from the University Center of the United Metropolitan Faculties (FMU). Bachelor in Aeronautical Sciences from PUCRS and undergraduate student in Social Sciences at UFRGS. Researcher in the CNPq groups Technology, Environment and Society (TEMAS), Research Group on Associativism, Contestation and Engagement (GPACE), Emancipation and Citizenship, and Geography of the Indigenous Question. Member of the Brazilian Association for Social Studies of Science and Technology (ESOCITE.BR). Has experience as a scholarship holder in different academic programs, including PIBID, PET and Scientific Initiation.

Fernanda Vargas, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul

Social Sciences Student - Bachelor's degree at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. She is a Scientific Initiation scholarship holder under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Monika Dowbor (PPGCOL) and a member of the National Institute of Science and Technology for Transformations in Participation, Associativism, and Political Confrontation (INCT-PARTICIPA). She is part of the scientific outreach team, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Lorena Cândido Fleury (PPGS/UFRGS), of the research group Technology, Environment, and Society (TEMAS). She also volunteers as a Scientific Initiation researcher under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Eloisa Beling Loose (Fabico/UFRGS) within the research group Climate Communication Laboratory, of which she is also a member. She is a Sociology teacher at the Minervino de Oliveira Popular Pre-University Course.
